We have been using a new, more organized approach to guild group quilts. At various times during the year, a block pattern is released and participants sign up for tasks associated with completing a quilt.
- Instructions that include a pattern, colors, and quantity will be released. Typically, the ask will be for two 12" blocks or the equivalent with a finished quilt of ~72" x 60".
- Fabrics come from your stash. If you have signed up to piece the back and don't have anything in your stash you are dying to get rid of, the guild can help out with fabric for that. The guild will provide the batting.
- Participants sign up for tasks, such as making blocks, piecing the quilt top, preparing the quilt back, quilting, or binding the quilt. This way we can distribute the tasks and know where the quilt needs to go after each task is completed. Tasks include making blocks, piecing the top, piecing the back, quilting, and adding the binding.

2023 Quilts:
Our March block was the Tippy and True block. It is a simple block to make and a great scrap buster. This quilt is in the assembly stage.
The January block is a modified version of the Chandelier block by Lella Boutique. These blocks came together at our annual retreat in March and is currently being quilted. Finished photos coming soon!
2022 Quilts:
This quilt was designed by Susan. Members made the blocks and put the top together at our retreat. Susan did the quilting:
And this one was designed by Patrice. This was also put together at our retreat and Rebecca did the quilting.
January 2021 Twinkle Quilt
The January blocks were designed by Patrice. Participating guild members made one (sometimes more) of each block. The top was pieced by Patrice, the back by Susan, and Rebecca did the quilting. The finished quilt really does shine!

ORANGE YOU GLAD (WE MADE THIS QUILT)? and SHATTERED, 2020 QuiltCon Charity Quilt Challenge
The MQG challenge theme for 2021 was curved piecing with a white, navy, and orange palette. The design process originated at a brainstorming last summer in a local park. Participants made curvy starter-blocks using materials provided by the guild. We then held a virtual workshop where the starter-blocks were altered by random prompts. Twenty-three quilters participated in the workshop, and two more contributed blocks later. The improvised blocks were brought together at a backyard design session where two quilt designs emerged. Although the two quilts were made from improvisational blocks that were essentially the same, the resulting quilts were very different.

The theme for 2019 was tiny piecing. Alexis was the master mind for the block design, and the blocks were created by individual guild members. We are currently seeking a title for this quilt. BMQG members should check their email for the form to submit your ideas. It will be shown in February 2019 at QuiltCon in Nashville, TN.

SPILL and BROKEN IRISH CHAIN, 2018 QuiltCon Charity Quilt Challenge
The Boston Modern Quilt Guild made two quilts for the 2018 QuiltCon Charity Challenge. The theme for this year's challenge was modern traditionalism. We made two quilts for the challenge this year, one to send to Pasadena for QuiltCon 2018 then donate, and a second to raffle. Ideas were generated at our July 2017 meeting, and log cabin and Irish Chain blocks were chosen.
Packets with precut strips were handed out and sewn, then the quilts were assembled at a sew-in in October. The Log Cabin Spill will travel to QuiltCon, and the Broken Irish Chain will be raffled off later in the year to raise funds for the guild.

Wonky World was constructed at our annual retreat in March 2017 and displayed at the 2017 Boston Modern Quilt Guild annual show, April-May 2017 in the Fabric Place Basement. This quilt was donated to the Refugee and Immigrant Assistance Center in Jamaica Plain.
BOSTON HARBOR, 2017 QuiltCon Charity Quilt Challenge
Boston Common was designed during a group brainstorming session in July 2016, then pieced at a group sewing session in the Fabric Place Basement during November 2016. It was displayed at QuiltCon 2017 in Savannah, GA. This quilt was donated to the Refugee and Immigrant Assistance Center in Jamaica Plain.
CHURN DASH SURPRISE, March 2017
Churn Dash Surprise was constructed at our annual retreat in March 2016 and displayed at the 2016 Boston Modern Quilt Guild annual show. In May 2017, this quilt was raffled off with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Refugee and Immigrant Assistance Center in Jamaica Plain.
The theme for 2020 was "text" with a black, white, and grey palette. We rebelled against the lack of color in that palette by creating a wordsearch made up of 43 color names. The binding was multi-colored and the back included a word key.

The current Be Kind Bee block is made of a flying goose and half-square triangles (block instructions found here). Blocks will be collected at meetings through April.
